Once More, With Feeling

Journal Entry: Fri Jan 27, 2012, 4:47 PM

You know what the best feeling in the world is? Discovering a whole, new band who's sound you love, and exploring their discography like an excited kid freshly initiated to a sweet shop.

Know what the worst feeling is? John de Lancie and Lauren~Faust joining thousands of talented bronies in an awesome celebration of our culture, then you discover the asshole beardy bloke sitting on a cloud put a ruddy, great Atlantic Ocean in the way...

...

Why is Britain so desperately dull and depressing for brony stuff?

Okay, so :icongunslingerpen: has updated the Allegrezza comic yet again! Not that I'm complaining at all, but he's starting to make me look bad!
gunslingerpen.deviantart.com/g…

Also, wait...what's this in my inbo-
:thumb281813291:

...

That is the most adorable thing I have ever seen...

Also, I uploaded a new fic short today. Weirdly enough, Gods and Demons got a sudden bout of interest in the last month or two. It's strange, really. It peters to bear nothing in August, I abandon it in September, and no one bats an eyelid until I point out the fact I cancelled it when I mentioned it in December.

Suddenly, people asking for a continuation spring out of the woodwork. I dunno about that, but it got my head ticking over Halo pony again, so have the fic short for now.Maybe something'll come of it, maybe. I mainly just needed a break from writing nothing but Allegrezza.

You can just use a space warp manifold to cross the Atlantic. Just make sure the baryons are all in the same quantum spin ratio! Otherwise... well, we won't be around to realize how much of a mess we've made.

Look for a song called "Alice's Restaurant Massacree"
from Arlo Guthrie. [link]
It's not a youtube link, but this is the version of
the song that's become an american thanksgiving
tradition for countless families XD

its a bloody funny bit, very worth the listen.

YES, i know... Vimeo x.x
but Vimeo had the orignal studio recording
and youtube only had a couple of live show
videos and the re-recording that happened
for "Alice's Restaurant: Revisted"
(I think that's the name of the re-released
album, too lazy too look it back up XD)

There really is nothing like discovering a new band and a completely new sound that you've never heard before. I totally agree with you there. Also, it sucks that the UK has no huge conventions like the States does. Dem New Yorkers don't know how good they have it in that sense.

Is that a Bon Jovi reference I detect in the title, there? :P

What a dick! Who would think of putting a mass of water in the way to stop us celebrating with them? D:
And it's not that depressing anymore. I heard we've got the blind bag things at Asda now. xD

YES OCTAVIA! YOU CAN HAVE A HUG!

I am unbelievably jealous.
I saw some yesterday in Asda. Sadly I was with a bunch of friends who hate My Little Pony. Like, seriously hate it with a passion.

I picked up a couple, but they noticed when we were at the self-checkout. They literally grabbed 'em and threw 'em on the floor and gave me the most disappointed look ever. :(

Oh well. The amount of sweets we (well, I), bought made up for it. I must've spent about a fiver on 3-for-a-quid's, as well as about 4 bags of Yorkie and Terry's Chocolate Orange cookies. And I think there were some breadsticks included in there somewhere. I mean c'mon. Who doesn't like breadsticks? xD

Needless to say, it was a fucking great night.
Besides the whole deal of me being so close to buying some blind bags. :(

Your friends sound like asshats, no offense. xD

Mine would endlessly ridicule me, but one has seen the show, and another is something of a brony who has seen Kyrospawn clips and loves Fluttershy, but just hasn't bothered to watch the show.

That's the road to obesity, paved with sweeties and cakes. :P

Hah. Nah, they're a good bunch. They just don't like ponies.

One of 'em was the guy who actually introduced me to ponies, he didn't do anything about the blindbags. xD

Aye, it is. And a delicious road at that. :D
But I'll have you know I'm quite small. 5ft 5 and weighing in at around 8 stone. It's a complete mystery as to why I'm not getting stuck in doorways. I've eaten like that for pretty much most of my life, and stayed pretty much the same weight throughout it all.

I know I so wan't to go to Bronycon, but it would cost a hell of a lot to go. And I just don't have that money to throw away. Makes me sad.

But at least more UK brony meetups are happening. I know the one in London is now happening every 3-4 months and some people up here are trying to get one set up for Manchester and one is/has going on in Leeds.

But they won't be as epic and awesome (but still good fun I imagine) as Bronycon.

Ooooh, band name?

I have the same problem with BroNYcon. While I won't be able to attend that with Ms Faust and John de Lancie, I will have the opportunity to meet up with lots of random bronies and do pony stuff for Everfree NW! I'm so lucky it's based in Seattle... I'm also somewhat glad that I ended up getting lost in there once.

Yay! Anything Halo and pony is good enough for me!

that is the best feeling, like when I went through Shinedown's or Skillet's or Thousand Foot Krutch's or Nightwish's or Classified's or Dragonforce's or Evanescence's or Within Temptation's or Marianas Trench's or Hedley's (I think I should stop...) complete discography after hearing one or two songs by them on a mix CD or the radio or in AMVs/PMVs or after them being recommended from a friend

wow that sucks... and don't feel bad... I'm not able to attend either (I've wanted to meet Lauren Faust since Power Puff Girls, and especially now that FiM has saved my life; and i've always wanted to see John de Lancie in person since I was 3, Q has always been my fav Star Trek character, and I also like Col. Simmons in Stargate SG-1)... I have no money or ride out there... even if I get a job... I have school bills to pay off first and then having to pay my father back for half my laptop...

lol, what's your fav songs by them? Mine are: Diamond Eyes and The Sound of Madness by Shinedown, Skillet... there are too many to list... and Nightwish, I personally like their Phantom of the Opera, Crownless and The End of All Hope

that is does...

hey you listen to 331Erock on youtube? if not, he is awesome, he makes Metal versions of established songs, themes and BGM, here is a link to his youtube page: [link]

If it's any comfort, a plane ticket from Seattle to New York is around half as prohibitively expensive as one from London to New York, so you're not alone in being screwed out of the opportunity to meet Lauren Faust and John de Lancie. Holy crap, would I ever love to!

Or the Reason Rally in D. C. with Richard Dawkins, Adam Savage, and James Randi.

Or that Caribbean cruise some east coast friends of mine are going on.

I can't afford to just toss a thousand dollars at round trip tickets! I'm not even sure which one would take priority if I did!

The short version is, I feel your pain.

Holy crap, diabetes-bestowing Octavia! @.@ And suddenly, all is well again.

...until I remember that Lauren Faust is ultimately responsible for that image existing.

Lies! I lived in England for three years. There are plenty of miserable people there!

Plus you're still equally subject to getting screwed by SOPA/PIPA, without the benefit of being able to vote on the congress thinking about approving it!

Anyway, I hear Sweden's a really great place.

I'd just have to learn Swedish. <.<;

Yeah, but there'll be no SOPA/PIPA if all the major internet servers are based here. Plus, the sudden increase in economic growth and jobs will alleviate the ailing economy here, providing money for people to live on more comfortably.

Yeah, way I figured it, is if American-based internet companies can't operate properly in America, they'd either pick up and move somewhere else, or be replaced by an unrestricted foreign company they can't compete with. Goodbye YouTube, hello YouTube India!

Read that short Gods and Demons-esque story you just uploaded. I may not be a fan of Halo (kinda wish I liked that franchise more than I do), but I didn't think it was that bad. You writing style does go well with a Halo based story, but Halo based stories just aren't my cup of tea anyway :(

And that Atlantic Ocean's a bitch, right? What's worse is that it's only gonna get wider over time! I don't understand why Britain is so isolated when it comes to Brony stuff like, meet-ups and so one, plus we have the 3rd highest Brony population as well (I think). Then again, I heard that ASDA are flogging bling bags now, plus there are 3 stores in my town. Time to get to work I think!

And which band discography would that be, if you don't mind me asking?
